i am pretty sure i have the coolest neighbors in town! this week happens to be there 1 year birthday and kris and i feel extra great, because we played a small role in helping this inspiring company open their doors. read along.... xx
meet "the unique space".
they are the bread and butter when it comes to community, creativity, collaboration and cultivating entrepreneurship.
located on 6th street in the arts district, they are a creative co-workspace, with both private offices and a large space on the first floor for anyone to come and work throughout the day (with membership).
on top of that, they have a brother and sister company named Unique USA and The Unique CAMP. talk about entrepreneurs to the 10th power.
not only is the unique space a growing work environment, it also serves as an event + rental space for weddings.... (check out hitched on 6th for more wedding info)
companies also can rent it out for workshops, parties, sample sales or even photos shoots. i teamed up with my friend love ala last year, for the look book of my lighting collab with barn light electric, and trust me when i say the backgrounds did not disappoint. a few of the images on this post with the brighter than life barn lights are actually from that very shoot.
when it comes to the interiors, the building is gorgeous with tall beautiful ceilings, exposed brick, modern full light garage doors, a kitchen, library, bar, i mean they have it all!
the story of how i came in contact with the unique team is kind of random.... but then again what do you expect from living in los angeles.
when kris and i moved into our loft a little over a year ago, we saw construction going on in this killer building next door to us (and me being the miss makeover gal that i am) needed to be apart of it. cut to a few days later, i stumble upon a kickstarter for "the unique space" and realized........ holy crap thats what the construction is all about!
long story short, a very good friend of mine put us in contact and kris and i simply just wanted to help out a neighbor. that's all. we saw passion and an awesome opportunity for our new neighborhood and wanted to help out. so we made a few phone calls and lent a helping hand to assist with bringing the interior of the unique space to fruition.
sonja rasula (mastermind behind this all) and her team (mainly chris heynen, who is the backbone over there) were all ears and let us select and secure product from our vendors, who generously donated or gave them huge discounts. some may think its weird that we took time out of our hectic schedules to help out a neighbor out of the blue... but i believe in karma. i believe in helping strangers out. i believe in community and generosity, and more importantly, i feel i was fortunate enough to travel the world and work with abc's extreme makeover: home edition for a reason. if i took one thing away from that show, it is that miracles happen daily and you have to trust in humanity. so here we are....
our dedicated partners: kohler, astek wallcoverings, silestone and eternity flooring, also felt the same way and jumped on board in a blink of an eye.
sonja showed us her vision and we immediately knew what products we could bring to their table.
how friggin dreamy is this kitchen!?!?! the farmhouse sink was the cherry on top of this kitchen. i swear i see images of this kitchen fly by on instagram. it easily is the most instagrammed space in the building.
for you color lovers, this jonathan adler palermo blue sink, gives you that punch of color (without being too crazy!) unfortunately it is no longer available and i am so glad we snatched it up when we did. the teal was so beautiful and it was a hit when we pitched it to the team. super happy with how it turned out, especially how we paired them with the karbon articulating brushed gold fixture, white ikea cabinets and kohler vibrant moderne brushed gold pulls.
all countertops in the space were contributed by our amazing vendor silestone. we went with the color extreme white zeus in both the kitchen and the new bar that was just recently installed. you should go and check it out!
i heart this bathroom....
The wallpaper was designed by sonja herself (along with a few other prints in the building) and our friends at "astek // design your wall" produced and printed them out for us. the kohler sink legs and fixtures we went with were fresh, edgy, and classic.
overall the space (both interior and exterior) is kick ass and only getting better! such amazing brands/companies come through the doors, we feel blessed to have been able to play such a small part in something so big. happy, happy one year unique space and many, many more to come! xx
